Welcome to talking French
This language experience is for relative beginners who want to get more out of their holidays in France. The teaching is based around practical real life situations that will take you and your local tutor out of the classroom and into the real French world of real French people.
Our ambition is simple - we want you to leave us feeling confident that you can more than get by in some of the situations you find yourself in on holiday - and that you will come back wanting to learn more.
This is not just a language experience - your tutor and hosts will build some of your learning around the rich culture of Gascony - buying for and preparing local dishes; finding out about and sampling regional wines and Armagnac; exploring the medieval towns and Bastides.

When you book one of our Learning French experience breaks we will ask you to complete a straightforward questionnaire' to understand your current level of French language and what type of language situations you would like to improve and gain confidence in so that we can tailor the experience to meet your needs.
All our Talking French experience breaks are based in great quality accommodation with hosts who will ensure you get a true flavour of Gascony hospitality.

| Château de Lavardens | Historical places |
Lavardens is an imposing hilltop fortified village. The castle attached to it was a stronghold of the counts of Armagnac. For a while the château belonged to the Marquis of Mirabeau, father of the famous revolutionary. Afterwards it fell into decay but has since been completely renovated by a private society 'amis du château'. Open daily June-Sept 10.30-7pm; April, May, Oct 10.30-12.30 and 2-6pm. Closed mid Jan-mid Feb. |

| Barbotan Les Thermes - Wednesday mornings | Markets |
There are all the usual things you would expect at this large Wednesday market and then there is a treat. A stall holder from Arcachon sets up their oyster stall selling several different varieties and sizes. They are set up between a café and a brasserie and tradition has it that you go to the oyster stall late morning and order your dozen oysters find a seat in either eatery and order a glass of white wine with bread (un ver du vin blanc et du pain si vous plait). Your oysters, wine, bread and a slice of lemon duly arrive and you are left to savour oysters straight from the sea that morning and a sharp fresh white wine to wash them down with. Best of all the whole thing cost not much more than 6 euros when last experienced. This, assuming you like oysters is a must do for your visit.

Eauze is a large Thursday morning market in north east Gascony with local and Spanish seasonal fruit and vegetables of all descriptions. Cheeses from the Pyrenees and other regions of France. Oysters and fresh sea food from Arcachon and in season cepes, morels, tromp mort and many other mushrooms. Chicken and eggs straight from the farm. |

The Musee des Jacobins is housed in a 17th century monastery. It contains archaeological relics and medieval artifacts as well as paintings and displays of traditional Gascon crafts. There is also an unexpected collection of Latin-America art including fabrics and pottery. Open Tues-Sun 10-12 and 2-6pm; closed hols exc July and Aug. |

Espas is a small village fete with a big reputation. Its core events are Sunday morning breakfast of snails, sausages and cheese washed down with copious amounts of wine - a very jolly affair with tables strung out down the main street. The second key event is a mass BBQ or traditional grilled lamb in a baguette followed by a disco and confetti battle.
Commercial golf course, 18 holes 4635m (5071yd) Par 67, Slope 120, Open 7 days a week. This golf course embraces the undulations of 5 small valleys, even if not too taxing, some strokes require thought and dexterity. A place where you will be in communion with the charm of the Gascony.
